Hello Tanya, Bill here . . .
Your roof is pretty well damaged (as you know), so for the replacement shingles I'm going to
give you two choices:
1. The XT25 shingle by Certainteed that looks like the one you have
now.
2. The Architectural Landmark 30 that is an upgrade but I may be
able to sneak it under the insurance company's payout. Let's try. I liked this
shingle enough to put it on my own home . . .
I've actually been "under" most of the insurance companies' payouts, even with the upgrades --
but I don't know about yours because I haven't seen your paperwork. I'll be upgrading the
drip edge by the gutter (there is NONE now), adding
"ice and water shield" at the gutter edges and the valleys,
and upgrading the ridge vent system to the Shingle Vent II system (the best on the market in my
opinion).
Probably the biggest upgrade is the underlayment -- instead of using that old nasty tarpaper I use
"Synthetic Titanium UDL" instead. It's a LOT more effective
against moisture, is VERY resistant to mold, and just overall a much better product than the
ancient "roofing felt".
I installed all of these exact products on my own home, I trust them so much.
Also, any of the other work you decide to do, I'll do them at the insurance company's payout
pricing. Hopefully I've beaten the roofing price; but you'll have to tell me . . .
OK, here are the specs for the roof:
21 squares of either XT25 Shingles, or Architectural Landmark 30 shingles
60 feet of Shingle Vent II
120 feet of "Ice and Water Shield", including our special custom formed 6" aluminum drip edge at
the gutters
TOTAL for XT25 |
$4976.00
|
TOTAL for Landmark |
$5438.00

My goal is to get your home restored to normal, with the above upgrades, at
approximately the amount of the insurance payout, or less.
Let me know what you think, Tanya. If you like what you see here, feel free to tell your
neighbors, and you may pass this page around if you wish.
The next step, of course, would be to get you some samples, actually put them on the roof
for you to see, and write up a fixed price proposal/contract for your protection.
Thanks!
Bill Thomas
