SmartVent by DCI is a product that was developed by necessity. Many older homes were
built before building codes were updated to address more energy saving and attic ventilation
issues. Some of these homes may have no soffit ventilation at all; many may not even have
soffits!
So how does a contractor provide an adequate "air-bath" to a home's attic under these
circumstances? Well, until DCI developed SmartVent, there was no easy solution.
"Intake" vents, if any, would be located in the soffit areas parallel to the ground. However;
as new energy savings requirements improved so did the depth of insulation in attics, often
blocking these vents. And of course there were the homes that didn't have soffit venting at
all.
SmartVent solves these problems by providing the "intake" vents above the soffit area, actually
through the roof deck where the shingles are attached. Now older homes can benefit by getting
a well distributed "air bath" underneath the entire roof deck and get all the benefits of more
