Waldorf Maryland Roof Repair: This home sits high atop a hill in
Waldorf, Md and has had several problems with shingle blowoffs. That's OK, we've "got their
back." |
Poorly stapled shingles are the culprit; plus they are 20 year
Certainteed Shingles which don't stand up to strong winds all that well. After six or seven
years the sealing strip becomes dirty and ineffective, allowing wind to get under the shingle taps
and pull some of them off the surface. |
Unfortunately, the roofing blew off right where there was a cut
in the 15 pound roofing felt, causing water to penetrate the decking and run into the attic. |
Here's another section that fell prey to the wind. |
Section One has been renailed using Certainteed's XT20 Forest
Gray Shingles. They're an exact match, and once the packing powder washes off, the new
roofing will match almost perfectly. |
Section Two is completed also. We used pneumatic roofing
nails and sealed the individual tabs with Geocel Tripolymer Sealant. |
Here we are applying the Geocel. Since it is a tripolymer,
it doesn't have solvents that attack the shingle base (like the "tar" and "roofing cement" you get
at Home Depot that actually damages the shingles). |
We also took care of some other maintenance issues, too -- like
this pipe collar, ridge vent end plugs and sealant, and some chimney flashing sealant. |
